PDF without source file

The PDF exists. The working file does not.

A finished PDF can be reconstructed when the original Word, InDesign, Illustrator or other production file is missing, unusable or unavailable.

What is actually missing?

A PDF may display correctly while containing no reliable structure for editing. Text may be flattened, fonts unavailable, tables fragmented, or entire pages stored as images. Automatic conversion can recover fragments without recreating the document as a coherent whole.

Original file lost

Only the issued or archived PDF remains.

Flattened content

Text and graphics cannot be changed reliably in their present form.

Damaged production file

The former source opens incorrectly or no longer contains the complete document.

Fonts and assets missing

The source depends on unavailable typefaces, images or linked components.

Complex page system

Tables, forms, columns, headers and recurring elements must remain related.

Authorised update required

The document must be corrected or reused without rebuilding it blindly from scratch.

Required outcome

The original governs the reconstruction.

Page size, hierarchy, typography, spacing, tables, reading order, numbering and recurring elements are assessed together. Where an exact component cannot be recovered, the permitted substitution must be defined before production.

The work may remain in the original language. Translation is added only when a separate target-language document is required.

What the assessment determines.

  • Whether all content is readable and verifiable
  • Which visual and structural characteristics must remain unchanged
  • Whether the requested correction is legitimate and technically feasible
  • Which fonts, images or components require approved substitution
  • Whether page-by-page reconstruction is economically reasonable
  • What cannot be reproduced reliably

Files are accepted individually.

A clean born-digital PDF and a compressed scan may look similar on screen but require completely different production work. Price and timing therefore follow the actual file, required result and review burden—not a universal per-page promise.

Authenticity boundaries remain fixed.

Reconstruction is not used to alter signatures, seals, security elements or authentication features. It does not certify that the source is authentic.
